Is Your Grain Dryer Properly Grounded?
Solid state controls, microprocessing moisture control, printed circuit board circuitry, and metallurgic sight controls are becoming commonplace on new grain drying equipment and are very sensitive to stray voltage. Even grain movement through pneumatic air tubes, elevator downspouts, pneumatic grain cleaners, and augers create static electricity that can affect the proper operation of these controls. To help prevent stray voltage in your grain system causing a malfunction in these controls, make sure your grain dryer control and power ground terminals are earth grounded. Even though your grain system is attached to the earth, stray voltage that is built up during use can potentially adversely affect these controls. Have your grain equipment dealer or your electrician install a copper ground rod and braid-ground the ground terminal strips to this same earth ground rod.
